Featured wildlife: Coyote

Coyotes (Canis latrans) have been part of Arden Arcade since long before any of us moved here. They tend to avoid humans -- smart move!  But they hang out here because they are attracted to pet food, compost and trash. Coyotes generally help us by keeping the rodent population down and, hopefully, keeping a lid on our wild turkey population. Coyotes are usually not a concern. However, the Humane Society recommends keeping cats and small dogs indoors or outdoors under supervision because coyotes can be territorial.

A coyote is seen on a road surrounded by greenery, with a sign in the background.
This little guy was sniffing around for rats and mice in Sierra Oaks Vista today.
