The NY Times' "California Today" online newsletter had a story about the City of Long Beach's Covid-19 vaccination program, which appears to be running faster and more smoothly than it's county's program is. You see, the city has its own health department, separate from Los Angeles County’s, and that has helped make the city's vaccination program a model within California, even to the point of winning praise from the Governor. The city has gone beyond inoculating people 65 and older to also vaccinate health care workers plus nursing home staff and residents, along with grocery and restaurant workers and schoolteachers. More details are available in LA's ABC7 story about the City of Long Beach's program.
“We can move fast and make decisions quickly. It’s been very beneficial.”
Mayor Robert Garcia of Long Beach
Imagine that - a city getting stuff done while a county struggles. Who would have thought that? Answer: most people who read our blog.
