Today's shooting

A story in today's online Sacramento Bee entitled "Woman shot in front of Arden Arcade apartment complex" stated:

"A woman was shot in front of an Arden Arcade apartment complex Thursday afternoon. Sacramento County sheriff’s officials say she may have been caught in crossfire. The shooting was reported at 4:53 p.m. in front of apartments at 1860 Ethan Way, near Arden Fair mall. The victim, a woman in her 20s, was shot while walking with a man, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release. A sheriff’s spokeswoman said the victim is expected to survive. Sheriff’s officials said the woman may have been caught in a crossfire between people in a sport-utility vehicle and a group of people in the apartment complex parking lot. Sheriff’s deputies, including gang detectives who were working in the area, responded to help."

Any one of us could have been "caught in the crossfire" by these apartments, as Ethan Way serves a residential area and is a common route to and from the Arden Fair Mall and Point West destinations. People who live in or near places prone to crimes like this deserve better. This sort of thing routinely used to happen at Sayonara Drive when it was part of the UnCity. After the City of Citrus Heights was formed the new city purchased the problem apartments on Sayonara Drive and put an end to the problem. Is Ethan Way the new Sayonara Drive?
