EmPOWERment Park Party

The Sacramento Parks Foundation, with support from community partners, wrapped up its community engagement meetings yesterday with a ‘Party at the Park’.

The Foundation is in the process of bringing a first-of-it’s-kind, universally accessible playground to Arden Arcade. This is a huge deal for the local community and the under-served children in our area. A series of meetings was held over the past month, asking for input, ideas and feedback. The meetings brought together stakeholders, local nonprofits, and community members for collaborative conversation and information sharing. The cumulative event of the series was a barbecue and party at the park site located at Bell and Irma streets in Arden Arcade.

"As a parent of an 11 yr old who uses a wheelchair, I cannot express enough how touched I am about the energy of this park. A friend and her son, and myself and kiddos were greeted upon arrival and given a tour of the proposed park layout and features. They asked us questions. They have thought of just about everything...the coolest, neatest, smartest ideas...like nothing you’ve probably ever seen before. Trust me...EmPOWERment Park is going to be THE park to visit in our area. FOR EVERYONE. We are so excited. Thank you Sacramento Parks Foundation."
Sarah Medal, event attendee

The event was well attended by neighbors, volunteers, local park board members, and children and families who are living with a disability. The park will be a fantastic, much needed addition to our region.
