Help People in Need - Update: EVENT RESCHEDULED

The event has been rescheduled for February 20th.

These are tough times for many people. Fortunately, there are people and organizations in our coummmunity who care. The Wellstone Progressive Democrats of Sacramento, along with the Arden Community Council and the Mutual Assistance Network will be hosting a "Community Table" event in February, providing free food, diapers and toiletries for people in need. The event will be held in front of Kico’s Mexican Food on 2324 Arden Way from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until all items are distributed. Available items will include canned food, fresh bread, soap, toothbrushes, and diapers.  Participants can either walk or drive to the event, but they must wear face masks and adhere to state and local social distancing guidelines.

"People in Arden-Arcade are facing many challenges since the pandemic began, including not having enough to eat. We need to come together as a community and take care of each other."
Magali Kincaid, Wellstone’s political director and a lead organizer for the event.

The event is intentionally being held in the western half of Arden Arcade. Residents there face huge challenges involving housing, poverty and limited resources. According to Austin Schlocker, CEO of the Arden Community Council, West Arden Arcade is highly vulnerable to economic downturns. He believes an an event like this is not just an opportunity to provide for those in need. It's also a way to bring the community together.

The organizers are asking for additional donations so that as many residents can be served as possible. The most sought after items include bread, canned fruit, canned vegetables, boxed cereals, peanut butter, jelly, beans, rice, diapers and baby wipes. If you'd like to donate, please contact political@wellstonedems.club to make arrangements for drop off or pick up. You may also donate cash through Venmo @JDKincaid.
