Congratulations to Arden Arcade's Emigh Hardware, winner of this year's award for family-owned small business of the year, an award given by the regional office of the U.S. Small Business Administration. The award was presented at a luncheon earlier this month highlighting Capital Region Small Business Week.

Every year since 1963 the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing that the country should honor and recognize National Small Business Week. In the U.S., small business is the backbone of the economy. They create two out of three new jobs and more than half of Americans own or work for small businesses.

Opened on J Street in downtown Sacramento in 1908 by the Emigh brothers, the store was eventually relocated to Country Club Center in 1952. The store expanded and moved to its present location at 3555 El Camino in 1973. Now, 71 years after moving to the suburbs, the store is still the go-to hardware store for Arden Arcade and nearby communities. Small businesses are foundational for our local economy. We applaud the U.S. Small Business Administration for recognizing Emigh's, our community's iconic hardware store, as family-owned small business of the year for 2023!
