New homeless proposal overlooks us (big surprise)

There's a new article over at California (un)Incorporated about SB802, a bill by Senator Angelique Ashby to create a new agency to control homelessness. As usual, it assumes the Board of Supervisors will understand and look out for our interests. Also as usual, it effectively hands more power to the City of Sacramento. It has picked up some significant opposition, though. Fighting the bill are:

  • Sacramento County
  • Mayors of Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom, Rancho Cordova and Sacramento (Sacramento City Council is split, however)
  • Homeless service providers
  • Unincorporated communities of Antelope, Arden Arcade, Elverta, Orangevale, Rio Linda and Vineyard.

Despite the opposition, Senator Ashby seems undeterred. The bill's next hearing is on July 16th. For more details, see the article

Will the City of Sacramento and a more-empowered Sacramento Housing Authority do anything about this situation and the plight of these guys if Senator Ashby's SB802 passes? Haha. Yeah, right. {photo credit: Arden Arcade/Carmichael/Sacramento Unincorporated District 3 community page on Facebook}
