Watt and El Camino protest
Dear readers - Please understand that our organization is non-partisan. We welcome and respect the differences of viewpoints in our community. This post is not about whether people support or do not support the current administration. It is instead simply about an event that took place in our community, one you are unlikely to see on local TV or read about in local print media.
A remarkable thing happened in our community this morning. Something like 500 people came out to a "No Kings" protest at Watt and El Camino. A group of people associated with Saint Mark's United Methodist Church in Del Paso Mano organized the event, which enabled locals to participate in the nationwide "No KIngs" activities without having to go to downtown Sacramento or some other remote location. Normally, Watt and El Camino is just a busy intersection with cars and trucks speeding by while homeless people do, well, whatever they do, at the formerly viable retail malls at the intersection. This morning was different, though, as many local people just walked to the site to wave protest signs, chat with neighbors and wave to passing traffic. Bringing the community together - what a concept!
