May 11th: Candidate Forum for SCOE Area 3, 6:30-7:30pm

Our candidate forum for May 11th at Howe Park has been modified. We are no longer able to hold a candidate forum for Assembly District 06 due to the unavailability of the two candidates. The incumbent has decided not to appear. Her opponent has not replied to our invitation or our follow-ups.  We regret that our current Member of the Assembly, Maggy Krell, has opted to keep the people of our local area in the dark as to her plans if re-elected. Transparency for the 38% of her constituency in the unincorporated area is apparently not a priority.

However, there is good news! Both candidates for the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE), Area 3 (see the map below) have agreed to show up.  This candidate forum can help you become an informed voter. You might wonder what SCOE is and what it does with your tax money. Beyond that, though, we have heard that the candidates have widely different views, and that could be entertaining. We are expecting a lively discussion of the myriad issues that surround oversight of the school districts SCOE oversees in our neck of the woods and the schools SCOE operates here.

The forum will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026 in the Conzelmann Community Center at Howe Park, 2201 Cottage Way. It will run from 6:30 to 7:30pm. The forum will be moderated by the League of Women Voters of Sacramento County. It is co-sponsored by the Advocates for Arden Arcade and the Greater Arden Chamber of Commerce. There is no charge to attend. First-come, first-served parking is available at the park's 3 lots: the main one across from Home Depot on Cottage and the two lots off Bell in the NE and SE corners of the park. Access Sacramento will be live-streaming the event, so you can watch it remotely. We sincerely hope, though, that voters will attend in person, because people will be able to see more than what the camera shows and they will be able to meet and chat with the candidates.
