The key takeaway is that NO ONE TOLD THE COMMUNITY - the residents, the nearby church and its school, and the San Juan Unified School District - until AFTER the site was purchased.

Supervisor Desmond says this is a "state thing", meaning when the state decides to do something, a county cannot resist, has no say. That's actually how our state constitution works. Counties have no choice but to do whatever the state says. {A word to the wise - that's not how it works for cities, which is a solid reason for an urbanized, unincorporated community to become a municipality.}
